Our amazing chef Lis Abel has won a national award which recognises the work of catering staff in the care home sector.
Lis, who is head chef here at Thorngate has been named Independent Care Home Caterer of the Year Award.
It is the first time the awards have been held and are designed to celebrate the good work that is being done in care homes up and down the country to personalise nutritional care.
The awards also recognise and reward those teams and individuals who are literally making the difference between life and death, day in day out, and giving their residents an outstanding mealtime experience.
Lis said she was thrilled with the win which is for her work in providing the very best nutrition for residents in the 44-bed Russell Churcher Court care home.
“Food is such an important part of the care at Russell Churcher Court and the whole teams works extremely hard to ensure that mealtimes are enjoyable, sociable and nutritious,” said Lis. “We have themed evenings and residents also get involved in baking sessions which they love.”
Lis has worked in catering for the last 24 years and is hugely experienced in her industry.
In addition to NVQ Level 4 in catering and hospitality, Lis regularly attends additional training courses to ensure that she and her staff are up to date with developments in the industry and best practice.
Thorngate chief executive Anne Taylor said was delighted that Lis has been recognised for her hard work and commitment which benefits all of the residents.
