Thorngate appeals for property expert to join as new trustee

Thorngate Churcher Trust is looking for a new trustee to help shape the long-term strategy of the trust and ensure it fulfils its charitable mission.

The charity has plans to expand its current portfolio of supported housing which sits alongside its care home in Gosport and chief executive Anne Taylor said someone with property experience would be ideal to help bring these plans to fruition.

“We already operate 124 sheltered flats for assisted living and a 44-bed care home and we have ambitious plans to house more people in Gosport in the future,” she said. “Our existing trustees provide a wealth of experience but we would like to add some

                                                                              property experience to the mix.”

She said that specialist housing and social care has taken an increasingly high profile during the coronavirus pandemic and organisations such as Thorngate are best placed to play a wider role in the future.

“We have the expertise, experience and accommodation to care for older people in our specialist housing. Despite delivering innovative housing schemes over the last few years, we continue to see very high demand for our housing from older people who are looking for a secure friendly community. We are looking to expand our property portfolio to meet ever-increasing demand,” added Anne.

“We have always been fortunate in having a strong board of trustees but the time is now right to recruit a new trustee who will help drive us forward at a time when further social housing development is central to our strategy,” said Anne.

She said the new trustee will be someone who is keen to make a difference and make a real contribution to the trust.

“They will offer us their skills and knowledge, in return they will gain valuable experience of charity governance, social care and social housing, acquire new skills and work in a team of people who share a passion for improving outcomes for older people.”

Anne said that having a good mix of trustees both now and in the future well enable Thorngate to continue to thrive and provide the social housing and social care which is so vital in Gosport.
